FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 13, 2024 | Toronto, Ontario – Choirs Ontario is excited to announce the appointment of Jamie Loback as conductor of the 2025 Ontario Youth Choir. The Ontario Youth Choir is one of Ontario’s most prestigious youth choirs and choral training programs, and core artistic program for Choirs Ontario.
“I would like to congratulate Jamie on his appointment as the 2025 Ontario Youth Choir Conductor! I am so glad to see Jamie, a leading choral musician and advocate from the Ottawa region, being recognized for his outstanding work and being given the platform to inspire exceptional singers from across the province through OYC, a pinnacle Choirs Ontario program.” – Charissa Bagan, President, Choirs Ontario Board
Jamie Loback holds a Master of Music degree from the University of Ottawa, is the Artistic Director of the Capital Chamber Choir, the Ottawa Regional Youth Choir and is the Director of Music at St. Joseph Church in Ottawa.
An advocate for the promotion of modern choral repertoire, much of Jamie’s work with the Capital Chamber Choir (2012–present) has centered around advocacy for contemporary choral composers, premiering numerous Canadian compositions, as well as the Canadian premiers of works by contemporary international composers. He has also prepared the ensemble for several performances with the National Arts Centre Orchestra.
With a strong belief in providing musical opportunities for younger, aspiring musicians, Jamie is dedicated to fostering inspiration, enthusiasm, and creativity in the next generation of choral musicians. Since the beginning of his tenure with the Ottawa Regional Youth Choir (2013-present), Jamie has developed a program that focuses on symphonic-choral repertoire balanced specifically by contemporary student composers, providing an avenue for their music to be realized in concert.
Past positions include Children’s Chorus Master with Opera Lyra Ottawa (2012-2013), Conductor of the Ottawa Catholic School Board’s Chamber Choir (2010-2015), and Artistic Director of the Ottawa Children’s Choir (2015-2021).
“I am deeply honoured to be selected as the 2025 Ontario Youth Choir conductor. I look forward to working with the talented students from across the Province of Ontario next summer. The OYC is a long-standing institution in the Ontario choral music community having generational impacts on this important artform. I am humbled to be entrusted with the 2025 cohort.” – Jamie Loback
The Ontario Youth Choir will run from August 8 to August 17, 2025 at the University of Ottawa School of Music at the Faculty of the Arts. Choirs Ontario is excited to welcome Jamie Loback and honoured to have him lead the artistic team in the 54th Ontario Youth Choir.
