Join Toronto Beach Chorale for our Good Friday Concert featuring Maurice Duruflé Requiem, with motets by Gounod, Fauré and Poulenc.
Maurice Duruflé wrote the Requiem during the Vichy régime in World War 2 and was still working on it when the régime collapsed in 1944. Duruflé claimed that the melodies are “based exclusively on themes from the Gregorian funeral mass”, sometimes adopted exactly, sometimes inspired by those themes. The music combines elements of Debussy, Messiaen and Fauré into a masterpiece of choral music with a subtle orchestration and a focus on peace and rest.
Featuring full choir, professional soloists and orchestra.
