On May 26, at Trinity-St. Paul’s Centre, the Shevchenko Musical Ensemble will bring back to the stage A Feast of Thunder, a work beautiful in its simplicity, eloquent in its poetry and hopeful in its promise. Commissioned by the Ensemble in 1973 and created by composer Morris Surdin and poet-playwright George Ryga, this musical oratorio in four movements – Birth, Youth, Adulthood and Death – stands alone in its grandeur and lasting relevance. While rooted in archetypal Canadian themes, it is at the same time universal.
We are pleased to announce that Tom Allen, popular CBC radio personality, will join the Ensemble as Narrator for A Feast of Thunder along with the Shevchenko Choir, Toronto Mandolin Orchestra and vocal soloists.
The first half of the concert program will showcase the diversity of the Ensemble’s repertoire with songs and music from around the world featuring domra virtuoso Ira Erokhina.
