Toronto Region’s first reading of the 2026-2027 season will be a read-through of Vivaldi’s “Gloria” conducted by Mervin Fick. This work is a familiar and popular piece among his sacred works. It was probably written in 1715 for the choir of the orphanage Pio Ospedale della Pietà. The work is a joyful hymn of praise divided into 12 brief movements ranging from festive brilliance to profound sadness.
Mervin William Fick is the Artistic Director of the Mississauga Chamber Singers (MCS). He is also the founding Artistic Director and conductor of the Toronto Beach Chorale, Esprit Chamber Choir, and Organist/Choir Director at St Peter and St Simon-the-Apostle in Toronto. Mervin developed the in-school program ‘Gallery of Song: Spirit of the Land’ which is an interactive presentation of choral music, poetry, and visual art based on works by the Group of Seven, Tom Thomson and Emily Carr. The program is offered by MCS at no cost to elementary schools in the Peel District School Board. Mervin also maintains a busy private vocal studio in the GTA.
