Talent, energy, dedication — for 46 years, each new collection of bright young singers called the Ontario Youth Choir has been pushing the boundaries of choral excellence and amazing crowds with the quality of their performances. Chosen by rigorous audition, the university and secondary school age singers from all over the province gather once a year to rehearse and perform. This year’s concert, The Spirit of Singing, includes an eclectic range of repertoire, from musical giants like Beethoven, Mozart, Brahms, Britten, Fauré and Bernstein to young Canadian composers of today and tomorrow. The spirit of singing and the spirit of youth are very similar — both, in fact, are irrepressible. This is sure to make for some excellent and exciting music-making. The Choir is led this year by Canadian choral master Jon Washburn of the Vancouver Chamber Choir, who is back for his third time as their guest conductor.
