April 15, 2022, at 12noon, the Huron University College Chapel will sing Dietrich Buxtehude’s Membra Jesu Nostri with historical instruments. Through this period performance on Good Friday, we seek to enter into the profound contemplation of the self-sacrifice that is at the crux of the Christian faith. The poetry from 13th century has been set to music in the 17th century, but is relevant and urgent even in the 21st century. Each of the seven cantatas of the Buxtehude will be accompanied by silences, hymns, prayers, and spoken reflections by Stuart Kinney, counsel on Huron’s Board of Directors.
An ideal event for those wishing to enter into deep meditation, wishing to experience Beauty as a means to tap into their spirituality, wishing to attend a live performance, or simply seeking a dose of high-quality baroque music. Entry is FREE for all!
Joining the Huron University Chapel Choir are:
Joseph Lanza, violin
Sarah Wiebe, violin
Patrick Theriault, cello
Alexandre von Wartburg, bassoon
Stéphanie Gouin, organ
