Schubert composed his Mass in G in less than a week (March 2 to 7, 1815) the year after his first mass had been successfully performed in Schubert’s home parish. He was only 18 years old when he wrote his composition, which has enjoyed enduring popularity. The Mass in G was originally modestly scored for string orchestra, organ, three soloists, and a choir. Later, Schubert’s brother Ferdinand wrote parts for woodwinds, brass, and tympani.

Dr. Bradley Barnham will lead a read-through of Schubert’s Mass in G. He is the Director of Music and Choral Activities at St. George’s Anglican Church in St. Catharines and is the Music Director of Wavestage Theatre Company in Toronto. He has been regularly sought out as a conductor and clinician for vocal festivals and competitions from the national to regional level, including the Kiwanis Music Festival. In 2014, Mr. Barnham graduated with a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from the University of Toronto. Before that, he completed a Bachelor of Music (Hon. Theory and Composition) from the University of Western Ontario.
