Saman Shahi will be leading a read-through of Maurice Duruflé’s “Requiem”. This work stands as one of the most influential, powerful and stirring works in the musical canon. The marriage between the Mass tradition and the impressionist musical language of Duruflé creates a work that penetrates deep within the spirit. The choral writing in
this piece is especially noteworthy; while it maintains a straightforward format, it portrays some of the most stunning colours and harmonic progressions. This work builds on the tradition of Mozart and Brahms’ Requiems with authority, and subtlety. We will be utilizing the organ version of this work for the reading with the possibility of additional instruments added.
