Conductor Mark Vuorinen will be leading a read-through of Haydn’s “Creation”. Franz Joseph Haydn was an Austrian composer of the Classical period. He was instrumental in the development of chamber music such as the string quartet and piano trio. Haydn spent much of his working life as music director for the wealthy Esterhazy family at their home of Esterhaza in rural Hungary. During this period his music circulated widely in publication, eventually making him the most celebrated composer in Europe.

The Creation is an oratorio written in 1797 and 1798 by Franz Joseph Haydn and considered by many to be his masterpiece. The oratorio celebrates the creation of the world as narrated in the Book of Genesis. The first public performance was held in Vienna at the old Burgtheater on March 19, 1799. The oratorio was published with the text in German and
English in 1800.
