This spring, Etobicoke Centennial Choir (ECC) presents a program that blends choral music with jazz rhythms and pure blues harmonies. Delight in Will Todd’s jazz “Mass in Blue”, composed in 2003 – an acclaimed piece that pulls together the driving energy of jazz and the ethereality of the divine. The choir will be accompanied by a combo of piano, drums, bass and alto saxophone.
The evening’s program includes Duke Ellington’s iconic composition “Caravan” in a hot Latin and Jazz inspired arrangement by Paris Rutherford. Our lead singers will perform “Cheek to Cheek”, the classic Irving Berlin jazz standard, as well as Manning Sherwin’s “A Nightingale Sang in Berkley Square” from 1939. In a blend of traditional and jazz harmonies and inspired by the words of William Shakespeare, “Songs and Sonnets” by George Shearing explores a range of moods and ideas through a tuneful and spirited lens.
