The gorgeous “Nänie” by Johannes Brahms offers a timeless lament on beauty and loss. The text of Friedrich Schiller compares the inability of even the Greek gods to save their loved ones from the inevitability of death.
The romantic “Liebeslieder Waltzes” by Johannes Brahms is a wide-ranging exploration of the topic of love in its various guises. The music ranges from playful to passionate, raging to gentle, and does so in a style that is both heightened and accessible. The choir will perform the recent English-language translation of the waltzes to better share their intriguing stories.
