Trinity Church Cornwall is looking for Visiting Music Facilitators

Posted 1 year ago

Located in downtown Cornwall, Trinity Church is the oldest congregation in the Anglican Diocese of Ottawa. As a congregation within the Area Parish of the St. Lawrence, Trinity works closely with our partner congregations in Lancaster and Long Sault. Trinity maintains a historic Christian presence in the city and is increasingly involved in social justice and outreach initiatives in our community. After almost two decades of musical leadership in the congregation, our Organist/Choirmaster will retire at the end of 2019.

As we discern a new approach to music at Trinity, we are looking for energetic and passionate Visiting Music Facilitators to lead our community’s musical worship on Sundays during the months of March-August 2020. The candidates would work closely with presiding clergy, the church choir, and volunteer musicians. The congregation is very comfortable with traditional Anglican worship: hymns from Common Praise, led with organ and choir. In recent years, Trinity has also embraced various styles of contemporary music. Once a month, service is organized on a Sunday morning, featuring keyboard, vocals, and contemporary praise music. Visiting Music Facilitators would be encouraged to bring a spirit of experimentation and creativity to the work of integrating various musical traditions and perspectives within the life of the congregation.

Reporting to the Incumbent, Visiting Music Facilitator’s responsibilities include:

Leading the congregation in musical worship at the 10:00 AM service for a series of Sundays.
Leading the church choir during a weekly rehearsal time and during liturgies.
Worship music selection and preparation.
Collaborating with parish clergy.
Work with a diverse, accepting community.
Encourage the community’s participation in music
Set-up/tear down of any instruments and/or equipment used.

Successful applicants will possess a familiarity with church music and liturgy through academic studies and/or participation and leadership in a church community; musical training; musical leadership experience; familiarity selecting music for church services; a keen awareness of the importance of music in community worship; excellent communications skills (written and verbal); good time management and personal organization abilities; the ability to work collaboratively in teams; and a desire to help the community grow in faith.

This contract position can be tailored, according to the availability, qualifications and experience of successful candidates. Please apply with a resume and cover letter that describes how your experience relates to the qualifications we seek.

The Rev. Patrick Stephens, Incumbent
Trinity Church, Cornwall
105 Second St. W, Cornwall, ON, K6J 1G4
