The RESOUND Choir is seeking a dynamic and inspiring Artistic Director/Conductor to succeed its retiring conductor. An interim position will commence March 29, 2020 to June 20 with a view to becoming full time commencing in the 2020-2021 season. The ideal candidate will possess long-range vision, leadership, and a strong commitment to continuing the growth of the choir, together with conducting experience, musical talent, and the proven ability to produce a performance experience of the highest calibre.
RESOUND Choir is an auditioned mixed-voice community choir that seeks the highest quality of performance in traditional and contemporary choral repertoire. The choir seeks out opportunities
to make meaningful contributions to the Durham Region – providing choral workshops and performance opportunities for Durham Region singers, hiring emerging instrumentalists, soloists
and conductors, premiering emerging musician compositions, partnering with front line community service organizations, creating a youth honour choir. The choir began in January 2019 and in its first year established an audience of over 300, was granted its charitable status, recorded two songs, performed with two chamber orchestras, and appeared in a WNED television special.
Durham Region is one of the fastest growing areas in the GTA and has a rich history that includes excellence in the performing arts. In its first year, RESOUND choir has grown from 15 to a current membership of 50 by attracting talented singers from diverse vocal backgrounds.
Each year, plan with the Executive a 3-concert season that is experience-rich, partner with other choirs and/or orchestras Assist in the planning and execution of fund-raising concerts.
GENERAL and ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
Collaborate and cooperate with the Board to manage the choir administration, budget, funding through grant applications, support fundraising, heighten the visibility and profile of the choir
within the Region and GTA.
Serve as an ex-officio, non-voting member of the Board.
Significant musicianship to choose imaginative programming, rehearse the choir effectively and efficiently, motivate and develop singing skills, audition and accept capable singers, conduct with proven effective technique, and thereby heighten the choir’s profile.
Ability and willingness to collaborate with the Board and its volunteers.
Compensation will be discussed individually with short-listed candidates.
