St. John’s is an historic parish in Toronto’s east end with a tradition of strong Christian witness and worship in our community and in the Anglican Diocese of Toronto. We have a small senior choir of men and women (SATB) with a paid lead in the mezzo and tenor sections. The choir provides leadership for congregational singing as well as an anthem, motet, psalm and mass setting as appropriate at the weekly Sunday Eucharist and at other times such as Holy Week, Feast Days and occasional Evensongs. Our congregation is open-minded, though generally prefers traditional music over contemporary expressions. Music is a very important part of worship at St. John’s and we plan to continue investing in this program. We have a very active church school (40 children) and hope to add worship through music to their programming. It is paramount that the music program engage and support congregational involvement and build upon the traditions of our church. St. John’s is fortunate to house a two-manual Hutchings/Stuart mechanical-action organ. The position and corresponding salary (established according to RCCO guidelines) is 15 hours a week plus wedding and funerals.
The successful candidate will be a creative and enthusiastic Church musician with a university degree in music and/or is RCCO/RSCM/RCM equivalent, along with experience in the liturgical and choral tradition of the Anglican Church. A desire to connect musically with the choir, our congregation, clergy, and kids is a must!
Prospective candidates should send a letter and CV by February 20, 2019 to:
