Village Voices, Markham’s Community Choir, is entering its 31st season. We are a 60 member non auditioned mixed-voice choir that enjoys performing a wide variety of choral music, from old favourites to challenging new composers. We are seeking a Music Director to help us progress to the next stage of our choral journey, effective January 2020.
Our new Music Director will be a creative, open-minded and supportive conductor who is respectful of the varying musical backgrounds of our members. Key responsibilities include: selecting concert repertoire, both from our library and other sources, directing rehearsals and conducting the choir and other musicians at concert performances. The choir is overseen by an Executive Committee consisting of dedicated volunteer choir members who ensure the health of the choir in all its facets, and although attendance at monthly Executive meetings is not mandatory, regular communication with the Executive throughout the season is key.
We rehearse Wednesday evenings from September to June at Unionville Presbyterian Church in Unionville, Ontario. Our season consists of two major concert performances – usually held in early December and May.
It is also our mandate to perform two charitable outreach performances annually.
