Music is an integral part of Christ Church Deer Park, which boasts an incredibly vibrant and eclectic music program. The Choir of CCDP, consisting of 20 volunteer singers and 6 professional singers, performs a rich treasury of sacred choral music. In the Fall of 2018, CCDP initiated a new Children & Youth Choir geared to provide music education and vocal pedagogy to our youngest members. For the past twenty years, CCDP has presented an incredibly successful and popular Jazz Vespers series, coordinated by Brian Barlow and featuring some of the city’s finest jazz musicians. Church on Tap is an informal Eucharist featuring inspirational contemporary music and followed by fellowship. The Christ Church Deer Park magnificent three manual, tracker-action organ was installed in the chancel of the church in the spring of 1982 and built by the Karl Wilhelm Company of Mont St. Hilaire, Quebec.

The Associate Director of Music will, in collaboration with the Director of Music, ensure liturgies are enhanced through the use of diverse and eclectic sacred musics. All activities associated with this position must be achieved in a manner consistent with the Parish Mission Statement, Goals and Objectives. All diocesan and parish policies and practices must be known and adhered to particularly the Diocese of Toronto’s Sexual Misconduct and Screening Policies.

Lead, direct and accompany half of all choir rehearsals and liturgies from September through June (Thursday rehearsals: 6:45-8:45pm; Sunday: 9:15am call-time, 10:00am service);
Provide music for occasional weekday services, funerals, weddings and ecumenical events (weddings & funerals are remunerated separately);
Assist with choir administrative tasks;
Coordinate musicians for funerals;
Attend weekly staff meetings;
Liaising with the music librarian, oversee the parish music library, including ordering new music;
Other duties as assigned.

A Bachelor of Music (minimum) or equivalent experience;
Demonstrated experience leading music in a liturgical context, including proven success in choral conducting;
Excellence at the organ/piano, and an ability to accompany in a variety of musical styles;
Proficiency in vocal pedagogy;
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
A collaborative, enthusiastic and faith-centered attitude;
A team player interested in contributing to the spiritual life of the community.

This position consists of 8-10 hours per week and will be remunerated commensurate with experience. This is a contract position from September 1, 2019 through August 31, 2020.
