Christmas is coming! It’s time for the show! Hang the lights, haul out the holly, and celebrate the coldest season of the year with Bravado! Show Choir.
On November 30th and December 1st, Bravado! brings Christmas to Barrie with “stravaganza” – shameless glitz, glam and eccentricity – starting the countdown to Christmas. By combining Broadway, Hollywood, the Muppets, bell ringers, children, and carol sings with the audience, Christmastravaganza highlights the full range of the season’s spirit – beauty, stillness, peace, extravagance, joy, occasional sweet sadness, sassy heckling, and loads of hot chocolate. Musical genres include soul, spiritual, rock, pop, showtunes, classical, and even a little brown-paper-package beat box tied up with string!
This season, Bravado! welcomes back the very talented Meaghan Ing as accompanist. Meaghan will be joined by the Bravado! Band with special guests Bell A’Peal Handbell Choir under the direction of Victoria Warwick.
Christmastravaganza will also showcase the newly formed Bravado! Kids, a show choir for children ages 8 through 14 in the Barrie area. Their mandate is to foster a love of singing, dancing and performing in a safe and fun environment, allowing participants to master control of their voices while having fun and making new friends. Bravado! Kids will perform pieces on their own as well as joining Bravado! for a few songs. The kids choir began as a pilot project earlier this year when a group of kids sang a Frozen medley (from the movie) at Bravado!’s spring concert.
“We thought that was so successful and the kids thoroughly enjoyed themselves,” said Marianne Derow, the founder of the choir and current Artistic Director of Bravado! Show Choir. “We would love to have a choir of 20, 30, 40. We want as many kids as possible to have the opportunity. We may have some scholarships available and kids can still join in advance of the spring concert.”
In the tradition of Bravado’s community spirit, the group invites the audience to bring a healthy food donation for the Barrie Food Bank, which will qualify donors for a draw of a festive prize. Healthy donation ideas along with other actions to reduce household food insecurity can be found here: http://www.simcoemuskokahealth.org/centsless
Along with bringing healthy food bank donations, the audience is encouraged to dress up in their Hollywood glam Christmas finery and should expect to be interviewed as they walk the red carpet for Christmastravaganza!
Evening performances of Christmastravaganza take place at 7:30 pm on Friday, November 30 and Saturday, December 1. A Children’s Matinee with pre-show craft activities will take place at 1 pm on Saturday, December 1. Evening show tickets are $25 with group discounts for 10 or more. Matinee tickets are $7 for 12 and under, $18 for 13 and over or $45 for a family package deal that includes 4 tickets.
